Merry Meet.
Life moves quickly.
There is always another task waiting, another notification on our phones, another responsibility calling for our attention.
In the middle of all that busyness, our souls quietly long for something different.
A moment of stillness.
A deep breath.
A place where we can simply be.
That is the gift of a sacred space.
What is a Sacred Space?
A sacred space is any place intentionally set aside for prayer, meditation, reflection or quiet connection with the Divine.
It doesn’t need to be large.
It doesn’t need to be expensive.
It doesn’t even need to be permanent.
Some people create an altar.
Others simply light a candle on the kitchen table before everyone else wakes.
Some sit beneath a favourite tree.
Others have a comfortable chair beside a sunny window.
The location matters far less than the intention.
Sacred Spaces Throughout History
Across cultures and throughout history, people have created places dedicated to the sacred.
Ancient forests became temples.
Stone circles marked places of worship.
Churches were built to inspire awe.
Home shrines honoured ancestors and household deities.
Even Jesus often withdrew to quiet places to pray.
Nature itself has always been one of humanity’s oldest sanctuaries.
Perhaps that is why so many of us still feel peace when walking through a forest or listening to waves upon the shore.
Creating Your Own Sacred Space
There are no rules.
Your sacred space should reflect your own spiritual journey.
You may choose to include:
- A candle representing the Light of Christ or Divine Presence.
- A Bible or favourite spiritual book.
- Crystals that inspire calm and reflection.
- Fresh flowers or leaves gathered respectfully from nature.
- A small cross, ChristoPagan Cross or sacred symbol.
- A journal for prayers and reflections.
- Incense to mark the beginning of quiet time.
Choose only the items that feel meaningful to you.
Sometimes simplicity is the most beautiful altar of all.
Nature is Always Welcome
One of the joys of ChristoPagan spirituality is recognising nature as one of God’s first classrooms.
The changing seasons remind us that life is always moving through cycles.
A fallen leaf.
A flowering branch.
A smooth river stone.
Each can quietly remind us of creation’s beauty and our place within it.
Bringing small gifts from nature into your sacred space can deepen that sense of connection.
Always gather respectfully, leaving plenty behind for the creatures who call those places home.
Everyday Magick
Sometimes the most profound spiritual moments are the simplest.
Lighting a candle with gratitude.
Reading a Psalm slowly.
Watching incense curl gently into the air.
Sitting quietly while birds sing outside your window.
These ordinary moments become extraordinary when we give them our full attention.
Perhaps that is everyday magick.
Not changing the world through spectacular miracles…
…but allowing the ordinary to reveal the sacred.
You Already Have Everything You Need
Many people delay creating a sacred space because they feel they don’t have the “right” objects.
Please don’t wait.
Your sacred space begins the moment you choose to pause.
A chair.
A candle.
A grateful heart.
That is enough.
Everything else simply grows alongside your journey.
๐ฑ Try This This Week
Choose one small place in your home.
Light a candle.
Take three slow breaths.
Sit quietly for five minutes.
Notice what you hear.
Notice what you feel.
Allow yourself simply to be present.
You may be surprised how peaceful five minutes can become.
